Our Chosen Turf Varieties Suited For Echuca’s warm summer and frosty winter
Echuca enjoys a warm temperate climate. Summer is typically hot, spring and autumn are mild and winter days are bright and sunny after a visit by jack frost.
This means varied growing conditions for turf where success depends on producing hardy varieties that will thrive in the local climate
Reasons to choose Coolabah Turf
SLAB-CUT TURF
All of our turf is slab-cut, which makes it super easy to install. It is also quick growing, needs less water during establishment and has a thicker soil base and root system. This means there’s no need for top-dressing, saving you both time and money.
EXPERIENCED GROWERS
To ensure consistent quality, growers must be accredited to grow Australian Plant Breeders Rights varieties. We’re accredited at Coolabah Turf and two of the varieties we grow are patented and protected under PBR licensing laws. All our varieties are tested and proven to produce the best results for our customers.
PERFECT FOR KIDS AND PETS
Green grass is a magnet for children and pets, so we’ve made sure our turf varieties are friendly to both. Our instant lawn offers a play area for kids that’s soft underfoot and varieties such as our Common Kikuyu stand up to plenty of activity from your four-legged playmates.
BIG AND SMALL AREAS
From an MCG-sized playing field to a quaint backyard, we have instant turf for any sized plot. If you have a small area to grass, you can DIY our turf from Bunnings for areas 10m2 and under.

Turf Installation Projects in Echuca
Transforming the look and feel Of Moama Waters Holiday Park
We’ve been fortunate to work on a number of turf projects at caravan parks over the years and have seen the way an instant lawn can transform the look and feel of a caravan park.
Over the past decade, we’ve installed acres upon acres of Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu at Moama Waters, a turf variety that will ensure grass surfaces are robust enough to sustain busy holiday park traffic and camping activity for the long term.
We’ve installed turf on all 70 of their ensuite sites, a number of powered sites, around their new villas and also around their pool and waterslide areas.
Moama Beach Turf Transformation Project
Moama Beach – We love an opportunity to give back to our amazing community, and in 2018 we had a red hot reason to jump for joy, delivering farm fresh pallets of instant luscious lawn to one of the most prominent patches of our EM town, the Moama Beach.
The final canvas, complete with new BBQs and seating area is a sight to behold!
Congratulations and a huge thank you to the Murray River Council parks and gardens team for their commitment to this project which has enhanced the usability of this public open space and made our mighty Murray River more accessible for EM locals and visitors to our amazing little river town.
Gunbower Lions Park Revamping Commercial Turf Project
It was such a thrill to be involved in the revamp of the Gunbower Lions Park, only 30 mins up the road from Echuca.
This popular local park is located on the banks of the Gunbower Creek and now includes a natural play space, a log balance play area with steps and patterns, a ‘jitterbug’ seesaw and rocker, a pendulum basket swing, climbing ropes, a two metre high log slide and sculpture rock spinners – wow!
Importantly, this project also includes a canoe launching pad with disabled accessibility and a fishing jetty with seating and fishing rod holders for all locals who love to throw a line in.
There is also a picnic shelter with a BBQ, bar tables and picnic style furniture, a low level bridge crossing, as well as an aquatic wetland area with submerged planting, accessible footpaths and not to mention some awesome landscaping and instant lawn thanks to our team at Coolabah.

Frequently Asked Questions
Buffalo and Couch are two of the most popular choices of turf varieties in Echuca and are both sought after for their all round performance and durability, in particular, their low water requirements, drought tolerance, ability to self repair if damaged and of course their gorgeous good looks!
Couch grasses perform best in areas with full sun access, needing a minimum of 5-6 hours in direct sun to flourish.
In contrast, Sir Walter DNA Certified Buffalo’s broad leaf means it is able to absorb sunlight more readily and can thrive of a minimum of 3-4 hours of direct light, making it one of the most shade tolerant turf types on the market.
Couch grass varieties have a superior repair response to damage than Buffalo, but its aggressive growth habit means higher maintenance.
Both have a solid tolerance to drought and should only be watered when needed. If you need more help deciding which grass type is right for you, check out our blog
