If you’re looking to turf a shady area, you are best to consider our Sir Walter DNA Certified Buffalo. This durable, hard-wearing turf variety is also excellent for families with kids and dogs. If you don’t have shade, then any of our turf varieties will be suitable. If you’re looking to turf a high traffic/public access area, we generally recommend our Eureka Premium VG Kikuyu as it’s the most aggressive growing and can self-repair quickly if it sustains damage. Spring is generally considered to be the best time of year to lay turf in Ballarat because foliage is flourishing and new shoots are sprouting during these months. 

This will help your turf quickly establish a deep-root system and thrive throughout summer. Additionally the temperature is starting to gradually warm up, and there’s still a chance of reasonable amounts of rainfall to provide water for your grass to grow. 

That said, with Sir Walter DNA Certified lawns, provided in a slab cut format rather than a traditional turf roll, instant turf installation can happen at any time of the year.

Ideally turf needs to be laid on the same day as delivery. If turf cannot be laid on the same day as delivery, please ensure it is laid the following day at the latest.
